The role of a staff member is to enforce the rules that are in the guidelines so each player can cooperate and create a lovely RP environment without players who have no intent to rp ruining it. Furthermore, it is to help with questions and knowledge about the server because even veteran players might make mistakes and it's our job to inform them and if they then choose to ignore the rules we are to take the correct action. Being a staff member isn't about you, it's about the experience of the server because if you're egotistical and power hungry players will see it and find other servers to play on.

Explain how you would handle these scenarios as a staff member:

1 ) You are told by a player in admin chat that another player is randomly killing people:

Firstly I put myself in administrate mode to prevent being potentially killed by the RDMer. Then I would bring the player who has reported this and just get some background information on who it is and the situation. I ask for what happened from his side before bringing the player to avoid them talking over each other so I can assess the situation. I will check the logs to see if a kill from that player has occured and if one has I'd ask the player reporting if he has evidence if he says yes I'll ask for him to get it ready since I will be bringing the other player. I do this part to make sure even though there is a kill that has occured I might not have been told the true story and the kill could have been from an RP valid incident. When I bring the offending player I will ask him his story and give him a chance to explain. If he admits to it I will follow the punishment guidelines and explain to him what exactly he has done wrong and refer him to the rule he broke. If he denies it and gives me a different story I will wait for the evidence. Depending on the evidence it will either confirm and RDM or leave it in an ambiguous situation in which case I will give the player a verbal warning if they have less than 2hrs of playtime if they have more than 2hrs it is a warn. I will return both players and spectate the one I have warned for a time to see if he was just lying and then resumed killing.

2 ) You are asked by a player about how to join a faction:

I would ask for the specific faction the player is interested in and tell him that he needs to apply for it by going to the correct HQ. If they weren't sure I'd give them a brief explanation of each faction and what they do and give them the link to the players handbook so they can get a indepth knowledge of a faction before committing to one. I'd also make sure he knows that some factions will require IC knowledge to join and inform him to make sure to discover in game to not metagame.

3 ) You catch somebody not performing RP and messing around:

I'd pull the player out of an RP scenario and explain to them what they were doing and why it violates the server rules. I'd make sure they thoroughly understood and refer them to the rules and tell them to get acquainted with them. I'd then check their warns to see if it was their first offence and if it was warn them based on playtime i.e 2hours or less. Repeat offenders will be dealt with more severity with higher punishments required.

4 ) Somebody acquires a rank but is not willing to RP with it properly:

First I'd make sure I take photos/videos for evidence since I'd have to deliver it to the faction leader. I'd also explain to them that ranks aren't something to take lightly as this is a serious gamemode and that they were given the rank in the hopes that they'd fulfill the role they've been given. The player would be issued with a warn (this is me just assuming someone won't have a rank with less than 2 hours of playtime) and then I'd finish the sit to give the faction leader the evidence so they can have a further talk with the player so they understand what has happened.

5 ) A player is prop spamming:

Freeze their props and the player so he can't further disrupt the roleplay. Unfortunately it would result in a permanent ban.

6 ) Somebody does not agree with the outcome of an RP situation therefore he decides to break RP and act OOC:

Bring them into a private sit and explain to them that if the RP was acted out correctly then they have to accept the consequences and because of their reaction they've now broken the failrp rules so I will be issuing them with a warning. Once again taking account into play time.

7 ) You bring a player into a sit and punish him however he does not agree with your decision and keeps arguing:

I simply say to him that if he doesn't agree with how I handled the sit he is free to make a report on the forum about how they think the case may have been mishandled but I well tell him that the case will now be closed as it is not proper to continue arguing.

8 ) Someone commits FailRP but claims the specific instance of FailRP you warned him for is not explained in detail within the rules:

I would state that the rules are a great tool that both players and staff members use at their disposable but a good portion of the rules is a general overview. A lot of it comes down to common sense, even though it might not explicitly say the exact scenario it is still under the general term of FailRP. I will tell them a punishment will be handed out and I will talk to a senior about said instance and if they decide that it is not failrp then the warn will be revoked.

9 ) A player evidently breaks a rule however he makes a good point in his defence by abusing loopholes within the rules:

Loopholing in itself is against the rules as it is Encouraging Rule Breaking. Using loopholes to disrupt any form of RP can be categorized in many different ways across the rules and most of the time you can fit it into a category. Therefore the player will be warned

Answer the following questions in detail:

1 ) Explain the difference between Tier I rule-breaking and punishments and Tier II rule-breaking and punishments:

Tier 1 is a rule that has been broken either unintentionally, accidentally or due to a misunderstanding on the players behalf

Tier 2 is any rule that was broken intentionally, repeatedly or due to a players ignorance.

2 ) Explain the difference between IC and OOC. Also define Meta Gaming in relation with the two:

In Character is the knowledge your character has developed with whilst spending time in the server such as base locations

OOC is knowing where a base is because of maybe hearing it in Discord or reading about a faction on the forums but not having visited it in game

Metagame is where you transfer your OOC knowledge into your IC knowledge giving your character an advantage of information they would never have known of anyway

3 ) Explain the difference between Serious RP and Semi-Serious RP:

Serious RP is a server where you must constantly remain in character. Everything you do is as if you were there yourself and you would do something you would normally do. For instance if someone has a gun to you, you are definately going to do whatever it takes to stay alive and not act like Rambo and try to disarm the guy.

Semi - Serious means most of the time you will be in character but there are certain times where you will be allowed to go out of character and have certain social interractions. (As long as these don't violate OOC rules)

4 ) Explain the difference between PassiveRP and CombatRP, explain your view on their importance in our gamemode:

PassiveRP is where most IC actions will take place such as interaction with shop keepers, doing labour and making conversation. CombatRP are as it states roleplay situations that involve combat such as shootings or fighting.

In the HL2 universe, PassiveRP is majorly more important. It is a gamemode that requires intelligence not just a fast trigger finger. You need to plan and devise your strategies, collect your resources through work and find things out in character. This is mainly do two things. The CP/OTA and PKs. CP/OTA are power houses who if I'm being honest destroy most people especially the OTA and PKs can reset your entire progress so you want to make sure you carry out as much PassiveRP to avoid being subject to the slaughter.

5 ) Define the term of Combat Baiting:

Combat Baiting is doing an action with the only purpose being to create combat or conflict without any valid RP reason. A great example of this is randomly pulling out a gun and pointing it at an OTA just to start combat or start a reaction sometimes referred to as player made events.

6 ) Define Power Gaming / Power RP:

Power Gaming is where you roleplay as if you were Superman. By this I mean you do things such as /me snaps your neck or /me crushes your skull with my bare hands or my personal favourite /me grabs the gun from your hand and shoots you. Power Gaming isn't just limited to strength it can also refer to speed or intelligence. The general point is you can't roleplay as if you're invincible as it doesn't create a fair and level playing field.

7 ) Define the term FailRP:

FailRP is a term that describes something someone either wouldn't or couldn't do in character and makes no sense towards whatever roleplay you're doing. If it wouldn't make sense in real life then it won't make sense here.

8 ) Define the term FearRP:

Treat your life as it is your own. FearRP means exactly that. You must do whatever it takes to survive, this is by following orders at gunpoint, not trying to take on a superior force such as OTA and not doing something that will 100% cause your death. The only exceptions to these rules are CP and OTA who have been modified so greatly they only value the cause and not their own life.

Explain in length and detail as to why you deserve staff more than other applicants. Explain what you will bring to the staff team and your strongest assets as a person/potential staff member (250+ words):

I believe I deserve a spot is because I have experience. I know how to handle situations and how to resolve them and I have a deep rooted RP and lore knowledge that allows me to integrate with the rules well. I believe that my experience throughout my years on W-G on different servers has given me the skills I need to be a potential staff member. I'm always available for players to ask me questions and more then happy to comply with them. Once I join a server's staff team I dedicate myself to it making sure that there's always enough support on the server if I'm not on it. Yet, despite being staff for as long as I have I'm still not perfect even I slip up but what's important is that I learn from that and don't let it happen again because I believe learning from my past mistakes is so important and I know that it's made me a better person and staff member. I'm always free just for a chat and love the social interraction of the community. Now for the reason why I think I deserve it more than others is because despite the fact I might not have the most playtime during the week as I know some people will always beat me, I can assure that the hours I am on will result in the most properly dealt with claims ensuring that player satisfaction is kept to a maximum and allowing the server to have a healthy playerbase that will thrive.

Let's just start from the top.

In the 1st case this sentence kinda confused me, as I didn't understand from the context who this sentence was aimed at. Was the offender or the one who reported the offender?

Now to be honest with this one. The part where you would report it to the faction leader could or would classify as meta gaming, since if you as a Staff on duty went and solved the situation you would create a OOC situation that being a "sit". Now ofcourse this part is confusing for most of our current HLRP staff, as we haven't really been told if we could report it to the faction leader or no in the case that someone is very clearly not following the server rules.

But these two parts are the only instances where I found myself doubting it, but never the less this is an excellent application and I really liked it.

With that said good luck.

Neutral

Well I read your application and it was quite good, just some smaller things what Klavigar already pointed out.
So the only reason that I will remain neutral to this, is that I never had any interaction with you.
The point is that you can write the best application but still be a complete idiot.
But according to the reactions on this and of the people I asked you are a nice lad.

So good luck to you
