Spoiler

S Tier

Simon's Book - The book is irrefutably the strongest weapon in the game, and considered by many as also the most boring, and for good reason. The book is a weapon that spits fire at mid-range with no cooldown of any sort and no need to reload whatsoever. It is unlocked by finishing the game with the grade S on nightmare difficulty.

The Camera of Death - The camera is the second strongest weapon in the game. It's able to instantly freeze enemies in my place when photographing them, but does not work on bosses. The only real downside to this weapon is that times you will freeze an enemy and they will completely block your path. It's unlocked by finishing the game in under 2hrs 30mins.

Famas - The famas is an infinite ammo assault rifle. It behaves like every other normal weapon but never runs out of ammunition. It's good for mowing down large groups of enemies but it is relatively accurate, something which can be overlooked considering the fact that bad aim is not punished when using this. It's unlocked by finishing the game on nightmare mode.

Glock - The Glock is the main weapon you will be using throughout the game. The reason why it's so high up here, is not only because of its versatility, but also because of the fact that is one of, if not the only weapon that is immune to ammo scarcity, something which will be talked about later on. It deals relatively low damage, however can be used safely in most situations. It's found early in the game in the apartment segment.

Leatherhoff's Axe - The axe is a reference to the previous game developed by Team Psykskallar, Afraid of Monsters: DC, an improved version of Afraid of Monsters, a mod made by the leading developer of Team Psykskallar years before Cry of Fear. It's the strongest melee in the game and can kill most common enemies on nightmare in two hits. It deals 55 damage a hit. It's unlocked by finishing the game on ending 5 and completing a puzzle.

Lee Enfield - The Sniper Rifle is a high damage bolt-action rifle that deals around 75 damage a shot and is able to take down most common and strong enemies in 1-2 hits on nightmare mode, however it's ammo, most like every other weapon in the game, is scarce and must be used resourcefully. It has a scoping ability that requires you to hold your breath in order to focus your aim. It's found later early in the game after finishing the puzzle in Gustav Dahl park.

Spoiler

B Tier

M16 - The M16 is an assault rifle that can alternate between single-shot semi-automatic and three-burst, it is first found in the first Sawrunner encounter but is usually impossible to get without being killed unless glitching Sawrunner out of existance. It deals a solid 16 damage per hit and It's ammo is plenty when you find it, as it is close to the Carcass bossfight. But as you progress after said bossfight, it's ammo begins to more and more scarce, making it pointless to carry around.

Gewehr 43 - The G43 is a weapon that can only be found in the co-op and manhunt campaigns outside of the main story. It's a semi-automatic rifle that deals 50 damage per shot and is found before every Crazysaw interaction. most often than usual with only one full magazine, which once emptied, makes it pointless to continue carrying the rifle.

Branch - The branch is a weapon that can be found throughout parts of the forest in the main story. It deals 10 damage per hit but swings relatively fast which makes it good against the Crazyrunners which you encounter across the forest. One of the only enemies who don't get stunned by a first hit.

VP70 - The VP70 pistol is a three-burst pistol that can be found in a tunnel before the college segment. It's ammo is moderate and does 15 damage per shot. While It's ok the Glock is still a better alternative to it and there'll be times where you might as well drop it becuase theres little to no ammunition.

P345 Ruger - The ruger is one of the strongest pistols in the game in terms of damage. It deals 20 damage per shot, however, it's magazine is small only being able to carry 8 bullets and it's ammunition is generally scarce. It's found in the bowling alley of the asylum and you can choose to keep it or give it away to the Doctor during your first interaction with him on the upper floor.

Taurus Revolver - The Taurus revolver is a weapon which you can get after killing Purnell during the doctor bossfight in the asylum. It deals 40 damage per hit and the ammo is moderate, however, it fires slow and it can only chamber 5 bullets. Which may leave you vulnerable at times.

Remington 870 - The shotgun is a gun that can be found in the mines. It does high damage (40 damage per shot) and the ammunition is plenty in the early stages of the game, however becomes more and more scarce as you progress. The downside to the shotgun is that the shots are inconsistent and sometimes the pellets won't even connect to the enemy, regardless of your distance from them.

Spoiler

C Tier

Nightstick - The nightstick is the second melee found in the game, it's introduced at the start of the second chapter after leaving the apartments. It does 11 damage a hit but it's wind-up time is long and it hits slow. Despite its downsides, it is still a better alternative over the switchblade.

Sledgehammer - The Hammer is found before the last nightmare sequence which of the subway segment and is given to the player in order to break down a wall. It deals 45 damage per hit but it's wind-up time is so slow and the fact that every swing eats at your stamina makes it not worth using considering the amount of enemies you face after the nightmare sequence and that you will lose all your items 30 minutes of gameplay after finding it.

Spoiler

D Tier

Fists - The fists are the worst melee in the game, and can be used with an empty inventory slot. They are slow and do 5 damage per hit, making it a horrible weapon of choice aside from a last resort. Not much to be said.

Switchblade - The switchblade is the first melee in the game and the weapon that you spawn with at the start of the game. It has two stances; slash & stab. Slash doing 5 damage per hit, and stab doing 6. While it's ok against common enemies on low difficulties at the start of the game, it's best to be swapped as soon as you find the Nightstick.
